  • WHY SHOULD I SEND MY DOG TO DAYCARE?
For those working pawrents, your dog could be spending 8-10 hours alone every day. That much time alone can get pretty boring. It’s easy to understand why your dog acts out. While it’s true that some dogs will sleep all day if left alone, this type of sedentary lifestyle isn’t healthy long-term. The lack of mental and physical activity can lead to weight gain, mobility issues and destructive boredom behaviours. To prevent this, you need to find ways to provide regular activities for your dog, even when you're away. Dog daycare is a great option to keep your pet busy and prevent undesired behaviours resulting from boredom or loneliness. Plus they get to play all day with doggy friends - what's not to love?

  • WHAT IS A TRIAL DAY AND WHY IT IS IMPORTANT?
Not every dog is suitable for daycare, hence your dog is required to attend a trial day/s on a probationary basis before we accept them into our daycare. Trial days allow us to assess and monitor your dog's temperament and behaviour, and ensure your dog is comfortable in the environment and suited to group play in a daycare setting. Note - This is imPAWtant! For your dog's first day - his trial day - we recommend you select a day whereby yourself or someone else is available to drop your dog off early (between 7.30am - 8am) and pick your dog up early. We want to ensure we provide a positive, safe and fun socialisation opportunity for your doggo, and our team may decide that your pup will have the most success if their first visit is a shorter day, or sometimes even a half day (which they will communicate with you). After a big day of new sights, smells and plays, they will be pooped and ready for dinner and a sleep! If we believe your dog is suited to the daycare environment, you are most welcome to join our pack! Otherwise, no stress - there are alternative pet services we can recommend.

  • HOW OLD DOES MY PUPPY NEED TO BE IN ORDER TO ATTEND DAYCARE?
It is best to wait until your puppy is around 16 weeks of age before they start daycare. It’s also important to ensure that he/she has fully settled into your home and their daily routine before exposing them to further changes (ideally at least 1 month at home from the day you pick up your puppy).

  • HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY DOG IS ENJOYING DAYCARE?
We will let you know if we see that your dog is not enjoying themselves at daycare - but your dog will also let you know! Dogs should come home tired from daycare – but a happy tired, because they’ve had fun! Your dog should enter daycare happy and eager to be there. If they are hesitant to come in this can be a sign that they are coming too often, or that daycare isn’t right for them. Daycare is not for every dog. Please note - we DO NOT recommend sending your dog to daycare 5 days per week. It can be too much activity, both mental and physical for your dog. We recommend a maximum of 3 days at daycare per week. If you work long hours we suggest organising a dog walker or other alternative activities on the other days. We can recommend trusted, local services.

  • WHAT IF MY DOG ISN'T SUITED TO DAYCARE?
Some dogs do not enjoy, or are not suited, to daycare. Some dogs may start out great at daycare but outgrow it, and no longer enjoy it, as his tolerances change with age. If this is the case, we may recommend a dog trainer to help address the behavioural issues, which once rectified, may allow re-enrolment in daycare. You also can invest in dog walking or dog sitting services from qualified carers. A trainer can also provide further ideas to help your dog’s environmental enrichment. We encourage our clients to balance daycare with a variety of enriching activities for your dog, such as walking, sniffing, car rides and socialising with friends (human and dog!).

  • WHICH DAY SHOULD MY DOG COME TO DAYCARE?
As a boutique service, we keep our daycare numbers low. Our days - and our play groups - are divided according to energy, temperament and play styles, ensuring that each dog plays with suitable playmates. All dogs are unique and have different needs. We don’t always separate based on size (there are no divisions between sizes out in the real world), so there may be various sized dogs in the same area. If we have dogs who enjoy playing together in a boisterous manner, we separate these dogs into their own space which ensures all daycare attendees have the opportunity to have fun and play safely. We will usually advise which days are best suited to your dog. Once your dog has attended a trial day/s, we'll recommend the most suitable day/s for them to attend.

  • DOES MY DOG GET FED AT DAYCARE?
Due to the energetic nature of their play and activities, we do not provide full meals unless requested, but instead have 'treat time' and snuffle / hunt activities throughout the day, and encourage and reward good behaviour with small amounts of healthy treats (depending on the attending dogs and any dietary limitations). Any dogs identified as food aggressive will be removed from the area prior to these activities and provided with alternative enrichment play. If your dog requires a meal during the day, please bring their pre-packed food as a single meal/serving in a plastic container with a lid, labelled with your dog's name (no glass please) and let a member of staff know when you arrive. Please let us know if your dog has any dietary requirements or if you prefer that they do not receive any treats. We also recommend that dogs eat breakfast no later than 45 minutes prior to car travel and ensure they are calm when served dinner after daycare to ensure good digestion.

  • WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE'S AN INCIDENT BETWEEN MY DOG AND ANOTHER DOG?
At Urban Doggo, we work hard to create a safe, harmonious environment for dogs. Not every dog will get along all the time. Just like humans - dogs have moods (yes, even dogs can feel meh!), which can be influenced by factors such as weather, lack of sleep or sickness among others. Although every dog is assessed before being accepted for daycare to minimise risk, occasional squabbles, disagreements or altercations can occur – similar to a child’s daycare. Our team is trained to understand dog body language and recognise these situations . If we see that a dog is becoming agitated, aggressive or dominating, we will intercede before it escalates. This may result in removing a dog(s) from the play area.
